When a child is conceived and born, a lot of things are happening. They become part of a family; they inherit certain characteristics from their parents; and they typically receive citizenship of a country by right of their birth.

When we are spiritually reborn similar things are happening. We become part of God's family (John 1:12) which includes an inheritance (Galatians 3:29). We receive a different spiritual DNA (2 Corinthians 5:17) and a new citizenship (Ephesians 2:19)

But... in the same way that as we grow physically we grow in our understanding of what it means to be part of a family and a citizen of a country, the same is true as we grow spiritually.
