Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

John 1:12

The Bible paints two pictures about how we become children of God.

Jesus tells Nicomdemus in John 3:3 that he has to be born again, then, in Romans 8:15, Paul tell us that we have been adopted.

For better or worse, children are molded by the family they are part of. Ideally, they will grow and thrive in a safe place, where they learn about grace and unconditional love; how to not be selfish and to serve each other. Children are shaped by the things that the parent values and communicates as important.Sometimes they may develop similar mannerisms or interests.

If this is true for earthly families, what does this mean if we part of God's family?

What does it mean to be born again?

What does it mean to be adopted?

What does this have to do with spiritual formation?
