The goal of spiritual formation can be summed up in the words of Philippians 2:1-5. Our connection with Christ causes us to be ever more molded into a person who has the same mindset as Him.

In doing so we no longer conform to selfish patterns of behaviour by our minds are transformed allowing us to see life on much grander scale (Romans 12:2).
